Submicron-size monodisperse polystyrene/polyglutaraldehyde composite particles having aldehyde groups at the surfaces were produced by seeded aldol condensation polymerization of glutaraldehyde in the presence of polystyrene particles prepared by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. Performance of continuous polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) method was investigated for removal of mercury and cadmium from binary mixtures. This method includes the addition of polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a water soluble polymer to bind the metals, which was followed by ultrafiltration operation performed on both laboratory and pilot scale systems. The influence of various operating parameters such as temperature, metal/polymer ratio, presence of calcium ions and pH on retention of metals and permeate flux was investigated. To investigate the possibility of selective separation of mercury and cadmium, experiments were conducted for binary solutions at different pH and loading ratios. It was seen that the retention of mercury decreased and permeate flux increased when the temperature increased. The increased pH and decreased metal/polymer ratio, loading (L), resulted in higher retention of both metals. Shapes of retention vs. pH or L curves were very similar for both metals. Retentions stay almost constant at a value very close to unity until a critical L or pH value was reached, then, R decreases almost linearly with L or pH. However, retention of cadmium was affected more than that of mercury as the pH decreased and L increased. This leads to the selective separation of mercury and cadmium. At low pH values (about 5) and at high L values (about 0.3), mercury was removed by ultrafiltration operation while almost all cadmium passed through the membrane. At pH 5.5 and cadmium/polymer ratio about 0.35 and mercury/polymer ratio about 0.39, the highest separation factor was obtained as 49.  相似文献

研究了聚(苯乙烯-丙烯酰胺)(PSAC)载体-氯化钕(NdCl3)络合物对异戊二烯(Ip)聚合的催化行为.PSAC·NdCl3络合物保留了小分子稀土催化剂对双烯烃聚合的催化规律和高度的定向效应.络合物的催化活性随着Nd/Ip和Al/Nd比的增加而增加,所得聚异戊二烯的特性粘数[η]却随之下降.聚异戊二烯的顺式-1,4结构含量达95%.此外,PSAC·NdCl3络合物的活性受PSAC和PSAC·NdCl3的组成与结构的影响.在一定的条件下,络合物的活性随着PSAC中功能团含量的增加而下降.PSAC中单体链节交替分布的程度越低,络合物的活性越高  相似文献

Studies of the adsorption of high molecular weight polymers on colloidal latex and silica particles and their subsequent flocculation were carried out. Neutral polyethylene oxide samples with both a narrow and a broad molecular weight distribution were used together with low charged cationic copolymers. The influence of the particle concentration and polymer dose on the flocculation were systematically investigated under quiescent conditions.Equilibrium bridging only occurred with polyelectrolyte, even in very dilute suspensions, at high particle coverage. In contrast to this, non-equilibrium bridging occurred with both neutral polymer and polyelectrolytes but only for more concentrated suspensions and small amounts of adsorbed polymer. Polymer adsorption in dilute suspensions, which did not show particle aggregation was measured an electrophoretic technique. In more concentrated suspensions, where flocculation takes place, we found that aggregation prevents further polymer adsorption and induces both an excluded volume and a surface effect. The consequences on the shape of the isotherms differ according to the aggregation mechanism.A significant decrease of the amount, , of adsorbed polymer is observed with non-equilibrium bridging. When both mechanisms simultaneously contribute to the aggregation, the value of depends on their relative importance. In the intermediate range of copolymer dose their respective contributions are critically sensitive to the details of the mixing step and stirring, leading to non reproducible experimental results.  相似文献

This contribution has been partly adapted from a special lecture intended to commemorate the Nobel prize, awarded one century ago, to Henri Moissan. It, is focused on fluorinated and perfluorinated molecules and macromolecules used in electrochemical energy sources, i.e. storage and conversion of energy. The latter, which figure indisputably among New Energy Technologies, include lithium batteries and fuel cells based on polymeric membranes both of which have tremendous development potential in terms of performances, safety and cost reductions. The advantages inherent in fluorine, in particular its electron-withdrawing effect and the oxidation stability that it provides to the carbon-fluorine bond, make it an asset in the search for new organic molecular and macromolecular anions with extensive delocalization of the negative charge, usable both in lithium batteries and fuel cells. As for fluorinated and perfluorinated macromolecule backbones, they are currently the reference material in fuel cell ionomeric membranes but some of them are also good candidates for use in lithium-ion batteries. This paper, far from being exhaustive, also emphasizes the economic aspects that influence material selection and also govern the future of basic research.  相似文献
